Premenstrual Syndrome and Vitamins Deficiency
Premenstrual Syndrome (or PMS) is a state caused by a number of hormonal imbalances that trigger multiple disruptive symptoms in a high number of women prior to menstruation. Statistic has shown that among 40 million of those who suffer with PMS symptoms, over 5 million need medical treatment.
Most of the time symptoms of PMS symptoms disappear when menstruation starts. Women stay symptom free until 5 to 14 days before the next menstrual period. These regularly happening symptoms after ovulation until menstruation are called Premenstrual syndrome (or PMS). Symptoms diverge from mild to severe enough that they interfere with work and social activities.
PMS may be manifested by a wide range of signs and symptoms:
- Depression, irritability, tension, fatigue, anxiety
- Headaches, dizziness and even fainting
- Acne, hives, boils
- Joint and back pain
- Allergy and asthma like signs, hoarseness, sinusitis, sore throat.
- Bladder infections
- Food cravings, bloating
- Tenderness and swelling of the breasts
The most severe form of PMS is called premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). This disorder takes place in 2 to 9 percent of menstruating women. Symptoms of PMDD and PMS are alike but are much more severe in PMDD.
The etiology of PMS and PMDD is fully unstated. There are hormonal imbalances as well as biochemical neurotransmitters imbalances in the brain which contribute to these.
Various vitamins and minerals have been found helpful in lessening the severity of the symptoms of PMS.
In most cases Calcium with Vitamin D reduce an intensity of PMS symptoms by 48%.
Magnesium deficiency also can significantly worsen PMS symptoms. A double-blind randomized study found oral Magnesium supplementation effective in reducing symptoms of PMS.
Researches from Baylor College in Texas have found that in patients suffering from PMS the level of Zinc in the luteal phase was lower than normal, while the copper level was elevated.
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) in the doses of 100 mg was may be helpful in alleviating symptoms of premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual depression.
The study found that Chasteberry, an extract of chaste tree fruit, is helpful for PMS symptoms, especially breast tenderness. Chasteberry support healthy serotonin level in the brain, therefore helping in mental and physical relaxation.
Ginkgo biloba extract in the amount of 160 Mg was also benefits for alleviate symptoms of fluid retention, breast tenderness and anxiety associated with PMS.
Vitamin E in the amount of 400 IU a day given for 3 months can to be effective in alleviating the symptoms of PMS.
Theanine, an amino acid relieves the symptoms of PMS by its normalizing effect on brain neurotransmitters and brain electrical activity.
Theanine is present in Green Tea, and is also available as a nutritional supplement.

Hyponatremia or Sodium deficiency
Why we need Sodium?
Salt is essential for life. Salt is contained from sodium and chloride.
Most people enjoy the taste enhancing flavor of salt. Less than 10 percent of salt intake is from the salt in unprocessed foods such as fruits and vegetables. Three-quarters of the salt most people eat is hidden in processed foods. Many processed foods have high sodium content without tasting salty. One teaspoon of salt weighs about five grams, and contains 2000 mg sodium
(40 percent sodium).
What causes sodium deficiency
Sodium deficiency does not normally result from inadequate dietary intakes. Most of us get plenty of salt from our food (or even too much) and don’t need extra even in very hot weather or when we’re sweating a lot.
In rare cases, excessive water intake can cause low sodium levels in the blood.
Sodium deficiency is called hyponatremia. Hyponatremia can be caused by prolonged, excessive sweating, prolonged vomiting or diarrhea, or the use of some diuretics. It is quite serious to deprive the body of sodium.
Hyponatremia is something to watch for with intense sport competitions that last for many hours.
Certain drugs can cause lowered sodium levels. These drugs include some diuretics, ibuprofen, naproxen, Prozac, and Elavil.
Severe hyponatremia can be fatal. It causes an imbalance of electrolytes that are essential for transporting water through the body as well as regulates nerves and major organs.
Hyponatremia symptoms
One of the primary symptoms of hyponatremia (sodium deficiency) is weakness: especially muscular weakness. Your body is aching, and all of a sudden you can not accomplish the athletic feats you used to be able to.
Other symptoms of hyponatremia include headache, muscle cramps, fainting, fatigue, and disorientation.
Vitamins and minerals therapy for genital herpes
Genital herpes is spread by direct contact with an infected person. Sexual intercourse and oral sex are the most common methods of spreading genital herpes. Vitamins and minerals therapy and antiviral therapy can reduce the frequency of recurrences and can reduce symptoms in acute episodes.
These are just some of the natural treatments you can try for genital herpes.
Lysine
Lysine is an amino acid commonly found in high protein foods and in grains. Lysine has been shown in clinical trials to reduce the occurrence of herpes outbreaks and to reduce their severity. Patients reported that with regular dosage over the long term, symptoms of herpes were reduced and outbreaks became less and less frequent.
For people who want to rely on lysine supplementation alone, recommendation is to take one gram daily for maintenance and one gram three times daily during acute outbreaks. Lysine can also be found in topical ointments to be applied directly to herpes eruptions. These may be helpful in reducing symptoms but have not been adequately studied to prove their effectiveness.
Vitamin C and Bioflavonoids
Vitamin C may have therapeutic value in the treatment of recurrent external genital herpes eruptions. Using 600 mg of vitamin C and 600 mg of bioflavonoids three times daily for three days after the initial onset of symptoms (in the prodromal phase) was found to be the optimal dosage for the most rapid disappearance of symptoms.
Vitamin E
Applying topical vitamin E to a lesion may provide pain relief. Although clinical observations have been made of only four published cases (in oral primary herpes, not genital), it would seem logical that vitamin E applied to genital eruptions may provide a similar benefit. Dry the area around the lesion with warm air and apply vitamin E oil with a cotton swab. Leave in place for 15 minutes. After the 15 minutes, pain relief should be evident.
Zinc
Zinc stops the herpes virus from replicating, and regular dosage can reduce the amount of outbreaks occurring. Applying zinc topically to herpes blisters also helps reduce the duration of the outbreak.
A number of zinc salts have been shown to have antiviral activity against genital herpes viruses.
Supplementation with zinc has been observed to reduce the frequency, duration, and severity of genital herpes eruptions. In some cases, the eruption was completely suppressed, and in others the eruptions disappeared within 24 hours of their onset.
To effectively control genital herpes outbreaks, nutrition experts also suggest increasing intake of beta carotene because it can help boost your body’s immune system, which protects you from virus infection.
A liquid oral spray, Herpeset™ is absorbed quickly into the blood vessels under the tongue, bypassing the digestive tract, which can slow the absorption of orally administered products.
FACTS ABOUT GENITAL HERPES:
- Herpes is not curable, but antiviral drugs can partially control the duration and severity of episodes.
- Chocolate can actually activate herpes virus in women and men.

How Vitamin D Controls Calcium
Calcium is known as the bone-building nutrient. But some experts pointed that we should pay more attention to exercise and vitamin D.
Blood calcium levels must be maintained within a narrow range for normal nervous system functioning and maintenance of bone density. Blood calcium levels are especially vital in childhood during bone growth.
There are relationship also between calcium, vitamin D and osteoporosis.
Vitamin D as calcitriol is an essential for regulation of blood calcium and phosphorus levels. Bone health and regulation is also assisted by vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, the hormone calcitonin, parathyroid hormone, and magnesium.
Calcium levels are sensed by the parathyroid glands.
If blood levels of calcium fall too low, the parathyroid glands secrete parathyroid hormone. The parathyroid hormone stimulates production of an enzyme in the kidneys. This enzyme increases the transformation of calcidiol to calcitriol. Calcitriol is a potent hormone that increases blood calcium levels.
Increased blood levels of calcitriol cause increased absorption of calcium from food in the intestines. The kidneys also reduce losses of calcium in the urine in response to increased levels of calcitriol.
It’s very important to keep optimum levels of calcium in the blood and for that matter a healthy and balanced diet is required.
In many cases, calcium can be mobilized from bones if dietary levels of calcium are insufficient. Increased release of calcium from the bones requires parathyroid hormone in addition to calcitriol.
Calcium and vitamin D are present in many liquid calcium supplements.. These two nutrients work together to help in the prevention of many diseases.
Most of the degenerative diseases are caused due to calcium deficiency but of course calcium deficiency is ultimately linked with deficiency of vitamin D.
CAlcium deficiency can occur with poor diet, abnormal parathyroid function (gland that regulates blood calcium levels), kidney failure, and vitamin D or magnesium deficiency.
Symptoms of deficiency include bone loss and weakening, muscle cramps, heart palpitations, tooth decay, back and leg pain, insomnia, nervous isorders, and rickets (bone deformities in children).

FACTS ON CALCIUM AND VITAMIN D:
- Eighty percent of American women are deficient in calcium.
- Most of the calcium in the body, about 99 percent, is found in the bones andteeth. Only one percent is found in the blood and soft tissue.
- You need calcium along with Vitamin D to build strong bones and keep them that way throughout your life.
